More than a thousand U.S. scholars nationwide are urging Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act labor law reform.
The scholars signed a letter to Congress calling the labor law reform making it easier to join unions without employer intimidation critical for economic recovery and for protecting democratic values.
Chicago Jobs With Justice Director James Thindwa says workers are determined to pass the Employee Free Choice Act.
[Thindwa]: “Corporations cannot continue to abuse workers, to undermine workers , to frustrate the right of workers to organize. This law is going to once again empower us to really give them a fight back – to take back our rights at work and to say that as workers we’re going to be organized and we’re gonna push for workers rights and we’re gonna push to enrich this democracy.’
A hundred fifty historians have also signed a letter to Congress supporting the Employee Free Choice Act. They say labor law has weakened from its original intent over the years and reform is needed to re-assert the right of workers to freely associate in unions.
