Baltimore Bank Riot of 1835

On August 6, 1835 the Baltimore bank riots began. The several day long riot was prompted by a bank directors money making scheme.The directors invested depositors savings in the Union Bank of Maryland which went bankrupt. Angry citizens attacked and burned the bank director Reverdy Johnson's home and in successive days, the homes of other bank directors and Baltimore's mayor.
