Clinton issues vague pledge on Vietnam's Agent Orange legacy

(Morning Star) Visiting U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has lectured her Vietnamese hosts on human rights and issued vaguely worded pledges to help the developing country to tackle the horrific legacy of Agent Orange.

During the Vietnam war, U.S. warplanes sprayed 12,000,000 gallons of the toxic chemical cocktail on the country to destroy forests in order to deprive resistance forces of cover and food.

After meeting her Vietnamese counterpart Pham Gia Khiem in Hanoi yesterday, Ms Clinton expressed concern over the alleged "arrest and conviction of people for peaceful dissent, attacks on religious groups and curbs on internet freedom."

She then pledged to increase U.S. co-operation with Vietnam "and make even greater progress" on the consequences of Agent Orange.

About three million people have suffered from cancers, birth defects and other ailments due to the effects of the herbicide.

After her talks with Mr Pham, Ms Clinton attended a luncheon hosted by the local American Chamber of Commerce.

  • The Vietnamese people give new meaning to the notions of patience, peace, friendship and understanding.
Undoubtably, this is because they,as a whole and as a government, embrace the positive essence of the Atlantic Revolutions in which complex of revolutions all humankind took leap and bound moves toward liberty for themselves and all humankind(including those which have taken place closer to the Pacific).
They know full well of these and of the kind and ineffably courageous deeds of Americans to restore the biological integrity to the heroic Vietnamese people, their flora and fauna, after the criminal and wanton horror of the savage, imperialist,Agent Orange war against this beautiful Brown people of Vietnam, which left the U.S. government bankrupt to address the human needs of Americans, especially of the working poor in the United States.
That this "Ambassador" Clinton would scold this long suffering and beautiful people, and be vague about this HIV aid program is a disgrace to the legacy of the peace forces in the U.S. ,including Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the multi-racial,multi-national,multi-class impetus which saved humanity from this despicable, irrational and racist war.
That this program is maligned in this way, this"President's" program,is a disgrace to the Obama Administration and all his administration's voters, who know full well that if not for the monumental efforts of the forces led by M L K,there would be no Obama Administration, and no peace in Vietnam and no modicum of peace in the U. S. of American.
We should protest this atrocity to the current Obama Administration.
