Exhibit: Rebellion on the Border

“Rebellion on the Border,” a photographic exhibition by labor journalist and photographer David Bacon, is on display at the City College of San Francisco and Gallery 1199 in New York City.

The photographs document the conditions in which workers live and work just south of the U.S. border in the factories of Tijuana and the fields of the Mexicali Valley.

The images tell the story of the workers’ ongoing efforts to win economic justice from the corporations that have located production there to take advantage of the low wages and the lax environmental laws under the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The series is part of a larger project documenting the conditions and struggles of workers in the global economy. Many of the photographs will be published in January as a section of “The Children of NAFTA” (University of California Press, 2004), which describes cross-border union and community organizing activity over the past decade.
