Under the banner “Health Care ’09: We Can’t Wait,” Americans across the country are being urged to get on buses, planes or trains or car pool to Washington June 25, “to lobby every Member of Congress in support of quality, affordable health care for all.” The national lobby day is being organized by Health Care for America Now, the national coalition of labor, community and social justice groups.
A rally is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. in Upper Senate Park, to be followed by lobby activities in various locations. Groups will visit with members of Congress during “scheduled or unscheduled visits and, in some cases, town hall meetings.”
Thousands are expected at the event. Delegations of community leaders from over 40 states will be attending, organizers say, in order to meet with key lawmakers. The people comprising these groups include small business owners, rural representatives, faith leaders, health care providers, and others. Other event participants have been recruited from HCAN’s 1,000-plus member organizations including labor unions, grassroots community organizations, online groups, and faith communities.
“We’ll make sure Congress knows exactly where the American people stand,” the coalition says. “But we need your help to make this event a success.” If you can attend, volunteer, or help organize, or want more information, go to .
