Workers can win a paid getaway from their boss — a one week vacation to one of a variety of destinations in the U.S., Canada or Mexico — by sharing their “worst bosses” experiences online in a contest sponsored by Working America, the community affiliate of the AFL-CIO.
“Finally, there will be a venue for workers to get some reward and recognition for the times they’ve ducked the flying stapler, brought an overnight bag — in addition to the midnight oil — to the office or lifted pens from hotels because the boss is too cheap to spring for supplies,” announced Working America. The group includes 1 million members who do not have a union on the job.
Workers can submit their stories online at www.workingamer-ica.org. Visitors to the web site can vote on the best or worst tales from the workplace. The contest kicked off June 19 and runs for six weeks.
Special guests Barbara Ehrenreich, Al Franken and Jim Hightower will join Working America as panelists over the weeks of the contest to comment on the worst bosses, Working America said in a press release.
Runner-up prizes include a CD of Johnny Paycheck’s “Take this Job and Shove It” and a DVD of “9 to 5” signed by Jane Fonda.
