Party of the rich: it’s disgusting

Republicans long ago lost their connection to Abraham Lincoln and their old nickname, Grand Old Party. For some years now they've been trying to pass off the GOP as "God's Only Party." But it would be more appropriate to give up "GOP" altogether and start calling them "ROP - Rich Only Party."

The ROP has stuck its stinking feet in the faces of the American people by holding up unemployment benefits, and all other legislation for that matter, until they get more tax cuts for their filthy-rich supporters.

The ROP has held millions of American workers and their families hostage until everyone cries "uncle" and agrees to pay $60 billion in tax handouts for millionaires.

As of this writing, more than a million jobless American workers have lost their only source of income, and the number will rise to 2 million by Christmastime if the ROP doesn't get its way.

Some say the White House hasn't fought hard enough to end the tax giveaways for the super-rich. That may be so. But who created this problem? The ROP. Who is fighting so hard for the top 2 percent that they don't care about putting the unemployed and their kids out in the street in the dead of winter, or taking holiday presents out of kids' stockings? The ROP. Yes, that's the harsh real-world reality.

The Senate majority voted on Dec. 4 for President Obama's proposal - to extend tax cuts for families and individuals making under $250,000. But although it got 53 votes, it went down to defeat because it failed to get the 60 votes needed to close debate.

Here is the lead sentence from the Boston Globe story.

"The Senate rejected President Obama's proposal to let tax rates rise for the highest-income Americans yesterday, as Republicans held firm in their push to continue all of the expiring Bush-era tax cuts" - meaning the tax cuts for the millionaires.

That's right. The ROP held firm. They were joined by four Democrats. But every single Republican, let us emphasize this, EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN, voted against this proposal. Not one Republican - not one! - dared to vote for the 98 percent of us, people who make under $250,000. Not the so-called moderates from Maine, nor the "everyman" from Massachusetts. Nope. Every ROPer was lock-step against the proposal.

It's absolutely wrong and an outrage to let the richest of the rich continually off the hook in paying taxes. But remember where to direct the outrage!

GOP ... ROP. It's disgusting.

  • So,simple, even if both parties look same,I would like
to find a paint and make one darker,so as to hit one
easier at a time. If the other wants to help, most welcome. Soviets killed Hitler, with help from Uncle Sam. The survivor may join force with me for ever for
it will be maturer by then. Capitalists give the jobs ? who gave job to capitalists, the state. State was there
when capitalists were not born. Sixty years there was
no capitalist ,not a single in Soviet union, and they reached moon without them. And dont think they ever
collapsed, they were money starved-compelled to make
thousands of Nuclear Bombs. It is the same war burden that drives the world economic crises. Raising taxes on
    rich would help,because empty pockets,if taxed,would
yield nothing, except a deficit. My dear funny critics, join
the left, and get face to face with reality. State is needed more by the rich to protect them and their loot.
Empty pockets dont need it.Capitalism makes jails, and the criminals, laws and law interpreters. and then deprive him of voting right as felons, to declare easy victory to themselves. Fun is good, but not if you hide reality beneath it. Sharma Jan 07-2011

  • How does raising taxes on "the rich" help anybody? Fewer tax dollars means less death and dismemberment across the globe.

  • In a bourgeois "democracy", there are two basic parties: The party of the very stupid rich (US-Republicans), and the kinda-stupid rich ("Democrats").I am from the working class; therefore, NEITHER party represents me!

  • How is it a tax handout when they earned the money and merely get to keep more of what they earned? Without these "rich" folks, who would employ you and allow you to pay your bills? Republicans are racist? Who keeps minorities subjugated through social welfare programs? Communist morons..

  • A better name for the Republican Party may be
ROB (Rich Ol' Boys) --- whose rasion d'etre
is to rob the middle and lower classes giving
the $ to their rich supporters.

  • President Obama did his best to increase taxes on the super-
rich. The Senate has failed us with the anti-democratic
    60 vote requirement.
I hope the Dems use the same tactics to defeat the Rich Old Party's right-wing policies.

  • Some claim that The Repub actions are mainly "due to race," i.e., arising form racism. What? They have no class interest? Presenting Obama's opponents as mainly or essentially racists is itself a form of racism ("Oh, poor Obama; he is too weak, cautious, beleaguered or ...whatever. He needs us highminded whites to stand up for him. After all, like all Blacks, he's just a helpless victim. And let's refrain from strongly criticizing him. Because to do so, is to attack a Black person, and that's racist."). Such ideological maneuvers boil down to right opportunism. It's a poor tactic and impedes widening the resistance to the Fat Cats. It's more effective to confront the rightwingers on the issues and not apologize for the Obama-ites, who are warmed-over Clintonians.

  • The President has failed the American people again. The extra tax money is needed to rebuild our infrastructure and put US to work. Without the extra revenue we cant rebuild US and Iraq and Afghanistan. The wealthy have done very well in the last decade and the rest of us have seen our buying power decline. That is the real problem here . The ones who buy cant ,and the ones who can wont, because they dont need any crap from WalMart . The rich always buy and dont wait because they have the money. They dont buy more when they have a little more money. They always have what they need.
