You’ve done it again. Working together, the friends and supporters of People’s World across the country contributed $200,000 to the annual fund drive that keeps the lights on at PeoplesWorld.org and sends reporters to picket lines and demonstrations.
The first milestone was May Day, when the amount in the door was $135,000—a big achievement after just three months of work, especially considering all the demands the new Trump administration put on the labor and people’s movements.
Through the busy mobilizing months of summer, another $30,000 came in, putting the total at $165,000 by the time Labor Day came around.
Finally, with just a couple of weeks to spare before the end of the year, the generosity and commitment of the PW community put us over the top, hitting the $200,000 goal.
That’s why the members of the Fund Drive Committee and the Editorial Board want to close out 2025 by saying: THANK YOU!
And thank you also to the Friends of People’s World in Illinois and Connecticut who kept going even when the goal had been fulfilled. They put on major events in mid-December, bringing in cash that will give the 2026 fundraising effort a head start.
In Chicago, 135 tickets were sold for the yearly People’s World Gala. Even though the thermometer read a mere 3°F, the Windy City was in a fighting mood. Labor activists and long-time PW supporters weren’t deterred by the cold. They came out to hear Jon Schleuss, president of the NewsGuild, who spoke on the theme, “Freedom of the Press is a Worker Issue.”
Out in New Haven on the same day, more than 300 showed up to celebrate the nominees for the 2025 Amistad Awards, now nicknamed “the Amis,” which honor new heroes of the labor and people’s movements every year. More than 60 organizations were represented.
Now, with the thank yous out of the way, let’s take a look back at People’s World’s “greatest hits” of 2025—the TOP TEN stories of the year, ranked according to total number of reads.
With the return of Trump to the White House for a second time, you might guess that a lot of the most popular articles on PW would be stories exposing the pro-corporate MAGA offensive and the racist outrages of the administration…and you’d be exactly right.
But for every report on the creep toward fascism, there was another dispatch detailing the fightback by the labor, women’s, civil rights, immigrant rights, peace, youth, LGBTQ, and other movements.
Action, action, action—that was the theme of the year, and we’re optimistic that defensive resistance will evolve into a people’s offensive as we head toward the 2026 midterms and as Trump’s lame-duck status sets in.
So, without further ado, here’s what you were all reading most in 2025. Keep reading, keep sharing, keep writing, and keep contributing in 2026.
