Join Women’s eNews to understand the issue of maternal mortality in Africa and India.

In a first for Women’s eNews, editor of the maternal health project and founder of Mochamanual.com Kimberly Seals Allers will host an international chat with Annie Raja, general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women, and Dr. Jemima A. Dennis-Antwi, the International Confederation of Midwives’ Regional Midwifery adviser for Anglophone Africa.

These women are on the front lines of the fight against maternal death. They will share their firsthand experiences in fighting for health care and support for mothers, children and families.

According to a UNICEF report in 2006, in India a woman dies every five minutes in childbirth. In Kenya (and through out English-speaking Africa) one in 19 women will die from pregnancy and childbirth-related causes.

The chat will help explore what U.S. women can do to support the important work going on the ground and extend solidarity to the women of India and Africa.

Sign up for the March 25 chat at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time at
