Port of Spain, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) The People’s Summit beginning here today will urge the US to end the over 50-year economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba.

David Abdulah, head of the organizing committee, told Prensa Latina ‘they will urge to end the illegal US blockade of Cuba and discuss Cuba’s exclusion from the OAS.’

The president of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non-Governmental Organisations (FITUN) says Washington’s hostile anti-Cuba policy has turned into a boomerang.

‘The United States has carried out a variety of actions like the blockade to shut out Cuba but has ended up isolating itself,’ he said.

A November 2007 report from the US Government Accountability Office says that out of the 20 sanctions imposed on different countries the blockade of Cuba contains the most comprehensive restrictions the US ever imposed.

A recent poll from CNN Network shows that two thirds of US citizens think the Administration must lift the ban on travel to Cuba and three fourths believe the US must end the five decade-long anti-Cuba blockade
