Poem: ‘Minneapolis’
Protesters chant as they stand behind a makeshift barricade during a protest in response to the death of 37-year-old Alex Pretti, who was fatally shot by a U.S. Border Patrol officer, Jan. 24, 2026, in Minneapolis.| Adam Gray/AP

Boots on the ground
Fear in the air
Ice that brings fire
Hate without care
Life gets cut short
Defending others
By those who believe
We are not brothers
Families gather
Friends reunite
Standing for justice
Against the far-right
Where will it end
How far will it go
Refuse to submit
Soon they will know
Defying the King
With his army of fear
Never give up
On what you hold dear
