UAW workers and their supporters are hitting the picket lines at the Chrysler engine plant in Kenosha Wisconsin today to protest the use of U.S. tax dollars to close the plant and ship its jobs to Mexico. Glenn Stark is President of UAW Local 72.
[Stark]: “They’re gonna shut six U.S. plants down and not any of the four Mexico plants. In fact, three years later now they’re gonna open a plant in Mexico doin the work that we were promised. It almost coincides with the date we’re gonna close on. And to me that’s just unacceptable.”
The Wisconsin AFL-CIO is urging support for the Kenosha workers, inviting the public to be on the picket line in support Monday starting at 4:30 p.m. Central time. It’s an effort to convince Chrysler to reconsider its restructuring plan and save the 800 American jobs rather than ship them to Mexico.
