Online campaign to boycott Koch Industries grows

An email and Facebook campaign to boycott products made by Koch industries has  grown in recent weeks. The Koch brothers are a major funder of the tea party and several right-wing think tanks.

At a recent bi-annual event bringing together conservative corporate officers, politicians and think tanks, the right-wing businessmen pledged to raise $100 million to defeat President Obama.

Last year protests greeted the annual meeting.

This year’s meeting apparently was held in secret.

A vice president of Koch funded Americans for Prosperity spotted at the strategy confab said his goal at the meeting was to insure  “aggressive cuts to government spending and to regulation to allow robust economic growth.”

Charles Koch pledged to give $40 million and David Koch promised $20 million. The Koches have called President Obama “Saddam Hussein” and a “hardcore socialist.”

David Koch, says Mother Jones, called the 2012 election contest the mother of all wars.

In addition the GOP duo were deeply involved in Gov Scott Walker’s union busting efforts in Wisconsin. Their Americans for Prosperity recently bought $700,000 in pro-Walker ads to combat the coming recall election.

In response public protest have gained wind in recent months including a march from their corporate headquarters to the UN.  In addtion,  Facebook pages have cropped up to “Boycott and Defeat Koch Industries.”

Email campaigns are also growing. The $100 million effort comes “amid an ongoing online campaign which urges consumers not to buy products manufactured by companies owned by the Koch brothers,” says the Afro American.

“Let’s begin to boycott the Koch enterprise until they have to scream “HELP”!” says an email entitled “Koch Brothers Boycott Obama- We can boycott Koch.”
