Video: DREAMers go to Navy Pier for “deportation relief”

CHICAGO – Last month, Navy Pier here transformed into New York’s Ellis Island. Instead of seeing the Statue of Liberty welcome them, immigrant families saw the Chicago skyline.

On Aug. 15, immigrant rights advocates organized an event for young people who may qualify for government “deferred action” on their undocumented status under a new Obama administration program. Organizers expected several thousand to attend. Thirteen thousand showed up.

Here are a few of those voices from that historic event.
