The 2005 annual fund drive is underway and more than $20,000 has been collected. Plans are underway across the country to raise thousands more.

Friends of the People’s Weekly World in Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware are hosting a “day of theater,” Nov. 6, to benefit the reader-supporter newspaper. PWW supporters can purchase tickets for that day to see the play “Hogwash!” performed by Philadelphia’s Old Academy Players, a nonprofit community theater group. Both Grace Kelly and Robert Prosky started their acting careers on its stage.

“Hogwash!” written and directed by Barbara Pease-Weber, is a topical, funny look at the problems and intergenerational relationship between a “feisty oldster” and her “harried daughter-in-law.” For tickets and information, telephone (267) 254-2328.

“Working class media and democracy” is the theme for the Missouri/Kansas friends fall fundraiser on Oct. 21 in St. Louis. For ad book and ticket information, call (314) 776-7732.

Northern California supporters will be hosting their gala banquet Nov. 5 (see adjoining ad). For reservations and tickets call (510) 251-1050.

Illinois Friends of the PWW will be hosting its annual banquet Dec. 4 at The Parthenon restaurant. For tickets and information call (773) 446-9930.

New Yorkers are invited to attend a luncheon benefit on Nov. 20. Call (646) 437-5332 for more information.

Over the summer, the International Commission of the Communist Party, in conjunction with the PWW editorial board, organized a silent auction at the CPUSA’s convention event titled “An evening of solidarity and song.” With donations of artwork, textiles, political posters and books, more than $5,000 was raised to offset the cost of the PWW’s international coverage.

These events and more are just a few of the creative ways dedicated PWW supporters pull together to raise money to help offset publishing costs and have fun for a cause. You can too. Please donate today.

Terrie Albano (talbano@pww.org) is editor of the People’s Weekly World.
