(Xinhua) The archaeological site of Acropolis, Greece’s most attractive tourist site, was closed on Thursday due to a strike by Culture Ministry employees.
The employees have been on strike since Feb. 26, demanding the payment of four months’ outstanding salaries.
The full affect of the strike had not been felt until Tuesday, as Greece has been on a three-day public holiday. The employees have threatened to force closure of the site again next Wednesday.
The Parthenon and other temples atop the Acropolis normally attract more than 100,000 visitors each month.
