May Day, or International Worker’s Day, is fast approaching. Millions of workers will march worldwide to celebrate victories and fight for worker rights, peace, and solidarity.
A great way to commemorate May Day, the workers’ holiday born in the U.S.A., is to place tributes in the People’s World May Day Booklet. You will want to be a part of it.
This year’s booklet offers a special commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the People’s World—a storied history of 100 years of revolutionary working-class journalism.
Defeating MAGA fascism in the 2024 elections, the assault on workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and voting rights, and addressing the planetary climate emergency are themes running through the booklet.
It’s an excellent opportunity for readers to support grassroots struggles and the great work of giving voice to people’s struggles everywhere with the Spring Fund Drive to raise $125,000 to keep the People’s World’s voice strong during turbulent times.
Ads can pay tribute to any person, organization, or struggle. Some of this year’s ads that have come in so far honor individuals like legendary communist steelworker Frank Lumpkin in Chicago and Edie Fishman in New Haven. Last year, individuals honored the “Tennessee Three” and the late Harry Belafonte, as well as college graduations and birthdays.
We’ve received ads from peace groups calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and demilitarizing the U.S. economy and from activists in Vietnam Vets Against the War. We’ve received greetings from union locals, including the News Guild chapter covering People’s World staff and allied organizations like International Publishers and the Chelsea Fund for Education.
We’ve also received greetings from some small businesses and readers in Canada.
