Republican Rep. John Doolittle, who has represented California’s 4th Congressional District since 1990, said Jan. 10 that he will not run for re-election in November, though he plans to complete his current term. Doolittle’s seat is among the top labor and Democratic Party targets for the 2008 election.
Doolittle and his wife, Julie, are the subjects of an ongoing corruption probe. The FBI raided their Virginia home last April.
He had raised far less in campaign funds than his Democratic challenger, retired Air Force officer Charlie Brown, who nearly won the seat in 2006.
Several possible contenders are reportedly seeking the Republican nomination.
